You're reading: Ukrainian electric vehicles market falls in July

Registrations of electric cars (used and new) in Ukraine in July decreased by 6% compared to July of the previous year and by 3% from June of the current year, to 799 units (766 cars and 33 commercial vehicles), Ukrautoprom reports.

Meanwhile, the share of used cars in the total number of electric cars was 92%, and commercial vehicles 100%.

The association draws attention to the fact that the decline in the registration of electric cars occurred on the background of the general growth of the car market in July and believes that the negative dynamics was triggered by confusion in the legislation due to changes in the system of goods codification.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on July 1 changed the codification of vehicles equipped solely with electric motors.

“At the same time, MPs forgot to introduce appropriate amendments to the Tax Code, threatening the possibility of further use of VAT exemption benefits,” the press service of Ukrautoprom says.

At the same time, the State Customs Service and the Tax Service explained in their letters that the benefits for the import of electric cars remain valid in their entirety.

According to Ukrautoprom data, 766 electric cars out of the first registered in Ukraine in July were passenger cars, 33 commercial vehicles.

The most popular electric car in the Ukrainian market is Nissan Leaf with 234 registered cars in July, the second place is occupied by Tesla Model 3, it was chosen by 115 drivers. The next places are taken by Tesla Model S with 98 cars, Tesla Model X with 45 cars, and Fiat 500e with 38 cars respectively.

The total number of cars registered in Ukraine in January-July is 4,315 (7% more than in the same period of 2019), including 4,112 cars, 202 commercial vehicles, and one bus.
