The Ukrainian weather center predicts the possible loss of 30 percent of fruit harvest due to low temperatures in southeastern Ukraine.

“The most unfavorable weather is for fruit trees. This year early blossoming of apricot, early cherry and pear trees started almost all over Ukraine and strong ground frosts and low temperatures of minus 1-4 centigrade damaged fruit trees. The loss would be 30 percent, for sure. Blossoming fruit trees would suffer most of all in western and northern regions,” Head of the agrometeorological department of the Ukrainian weather center Tetiana Adamenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

She said that nothing threatens winter crops, on the contrary, snow added moisture.

“With a high likelihood one can say that the winter crop harvest will be good,” she said.

She said that early spring crops could be slightly damaged.

“As for early sunflower and corn, a small area was planted and they have not yet sprouted. No damage would be seen,” she said.
