You're reading: Ukrainians buy $46 million more currency from banks than sell

Ukrainians in August 2018 bought currency from banks for the equivalent of $1.045 billion, while sold for $999.3 million, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said on its website.

Net purchase of currency by Ukrainians in August was $46 million, while net sale of currency by Ukrainians in July decreased to $135.3 million compared to $268.7 million in June, $350.6 million in May, $234.7 million in April of this year and $193.8 million in August last year.

The volume of currency purchase in August compared to the previous month increased by 13.9 percent, while sales decreased by 5.1 percent, and compared to August 2017 purchase rose by 74.9 percent, while sales by 26.3 percent.

The NBU said Ukrainians last month bought $811.6 million in U.S. dollars, while sold $715.9 million.

In general, for the eight months of this year, the sale of foreign currency exceeded its purchase by $1.324 billion, in particular in dollars by $1.001 billion, while in the first eight months of last year the figure stood at $1.9 billion, in particular in dollars at $1.43 billion.
