The European Business Association (EBA) has urged to prevent the rollback of reforms in the financial sector and ensure the continued independence of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

Protests take place outside the National Bank of Ukraine on Nov. 26, 2019. The central bank accused billionaire oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky of staging the demonstrations. Kolomoisky is engaged in a long-running feud with banking authorities who nationalized his PrivatBank in 2016, after alleged bank fraud that cost $5.5 billion to taxpayers. Smolii resigned on July 1, 2020, citing sustained "political pressure" on him that made it impossible to perform his duties.
