You're reading: Winner Group Ukraine: corporate social responsibility as an integral part of business

For over 25 years, Winner Group Ukraine has been an example of a transparent, honest and responsible business. For Winner corporate social responsibility is a part of its DNA, is a duty to society and clear indication that it cares about the future of Ukraine. Every year the company takes part in a large number of initiatives, charitable projects and partnerships with several charitable foundations and supporters of orphanages.

The main pillars of Winner CSR are improvement of life quality of physically challenged children and their families, youth development and public health, the nation’s general and cultural education. Bringing fundamental changes in Ukraine’s life is the main aim of all Winner charity projects. Assistance to boarding schools as well as to orphanages and institutions for children in difficult circumstances or with health problems; support of the Ukrainian orchestras’ projects, as well as book publishing; support of education in Ukraine, in particular, Kyiv Polytechnic Institute National Technical University of Ukraine – these are only a few lines from the list of Winner CSR activities.

It is also very important for the company to support local communities in areas of Winner’s business presence. Therefore, the company’s CSR program includes active participation in life of the villages of Dmytrivka and Velyka Oleksandrivka by supporting children’s sport competitions, judo in particular, local junior football teams, and so on.

Supporting Lviv Regional Hospital
One of the most important charity activity area for Winner Group Ukraine is supporting Ukrainian medical institutions. For 25 years, the company has cooperated with many partner hospitals. But the longest and most fruitful cooperation has been forged with Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital – it started in 1996 and has been proceeding ever since. The project to restore the hospital is a matter of great historical importance for Winner Group Ukraine, as the parents of John Hynansky, the company’s founder and CEO, were born in western Ukraine, but were forced to leave their homeland in the 1930s.

In 1996, Winner helped to establish a system for transporting critically ill patients using a Ford Econoline Ambulance provided by the Henry Ford Hospital. In 1997, Winner handed over a second Ambulance, a Ford Transit, to the hospital. In March this year, the ceremonial transfer of the next Ford Transit-based neonatal ambulance took place. The ambulance is equipped to reduce road vibrations and transport newborns who are at risk safely. In June, the hospital will receive one more ambulance of this kind. Helping to save the lives of premature babies has thus become a traditional honorary duty of the company.

In 2016-2017, the company acquired three incubators for newborn babies at risk at a total cost of 52,000 euros. Winner’s largest charity project is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year. It will be a reconstruction and equipping of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Lviv Regional Hospital. The total cost of this project is about 2 million euros.
Furthermore, last year, Winner Group Ukraine started cooperating with the Heart on the Palm Charity Foundation, which saves children suffering from heart failure.

Traffic Challenge Project
As one of the leading Ukrainian automotive businesses, Winner Group Ukraine seeks to raise the awareness and responsibility of road users in Ukraine. Therefore, this year the company became a partner of the Traffic Challenge Project for children and young people, aiming to improve road safety culture and reduce road accidents. Winner wants to contribute to the safety of society, because the car industry is primarily interested in the proper use of its cars, which means providing mobility, comfort and safety. The company is convinced that this project will save many lives.

Employee Involvement
It is very important to involve employees in CSR programs, so that each of them can feel that they are making a personal contribution to a good cause. Therefore, Winner arranges blood donation days, has introduced a “green office” and waste sorting, etc. At the moment, the company is preparing for a large-scale event, in which 87 Winner employees will participate – the Kyiv Chestnut Run.

Winner is symbolically starting its 26th year in Ukraine by taking part in the 26th annual Charity Chestnut Run as an Official Automobile Partner. On June 3, 2018, more than 10,000 people will gather on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv to run for “children’s hearts.” The funds collected will be directed to purchase necessary equipment for the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The Winner team members who have already registered as runners are actively training and encouraging others to participate.

The corporate social responsibility of Winner Group Ukraine covers projects in various spheres, but they share a common, noble goal: to improve and preserve Ukrainians’ life and health. Each Winner employee of the company acknowledges the values of integrity, continuous improvement, professionalism, winning and, of course, caring for people. This active social position and the desire for positive changes inspire Winner to new achievements for the sake of a better future for our country.
