Basmanny district court of Moscow has extended the house arrest of Gogol Center’s artistic director, the stage director Kirill Serebrennikov, accused of embezzling public funds, until the middle of the spring.

“The court has concluded that the petition [filed] by investigative bodies should be satisfied and the house arrest of the accused Serebrennikov extended until April 19, 2018,” judge Yevgeniya Nikolayeva said, reading out the ruling on January 16.

The court ordered the same extension of the custody of Seventh Studio’s first general producer and Gogol Center’s ex-director Alexei Malobrodsky and of the house arrest of the autonomous nonprofit organization’s ex-general director Yury Itin.
