The European Union has voted to extend existing individual sanctions for an additional six months against those involved in aggression against Ukraine. According to Reuters, the sanctions place an EU travel ban and asset freeze on those targeted, and will effect 154 individuals and 50 companies, once now-deceased Donetsk People’s Republic leader Alexander Zakharchenko is removed.

In addition to sanctioning Russian companies and individuals, pro-Moscow Ukrainian entities are also on the list.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in a Facebook post called the EU’s decision a “logical move”, writing, “I welcome the piece of news from Brussels about the logical decision of the EU ambassadors to extend individual sanctions against Russia…we are moving ahead with one unwavering transatlantic front!”

Diplomats say that the new sanctions list will be formally completed within the coming days.
