Residents near Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, were left shaken on the morning of June 30, 1908, when the ground rumbled and the windows smashed. A fireball, believed to have been up to 100-metres-wide ripped through the air above a remote forest near the Podkamennaya Tunguska river, in what is now part of Russia. The space rock depleted 770 miles of forest and wiped out almost 80 million trees.
