MOSCOW – Moscow possesses intelligence indicating that the United States is planning to increase the sanction pressure on Russia, including on its energy sector, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) chief Sergei Naryshkin said.
“Judging by intelligence we have received, Washington intends to increase the sanction pressure on our country and is looking for new pretexts for this,” Naryshkin said at hearings at the Federation Council on June 7.
“The Americans are planning to expand the restrictions on Russia’s extracting and related economy sectors and are mulling the ideas of reducing the loan terms on foreign markets for government-related Russian banks and energy companies,” he said.
“The United States is trying to persuade its partners that it would be reasonable to reduce the volumes of Russian oil and coal purchases, further restrict Russia’s access to modern technologies and equipment for extracting hydrocarbons, and block Russian energy projects abroad,” Naryshkin said.
