MOSCOW – The Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab has registered about 45,000 WannaCry ransomware virus attacks in 74 countries, with Russia being hit the most, Kaspersky Lab told Interfax on Friday.
“Specialists at Kaspersky Lab analyzed the information about infections with the cryptic software dubbed WannaCry, which affected companies all over the world on May 12. At this point Kasperky Lab has registered some 45,000 attempted attacks in 74 countries across the world. The biggest number of infection attempts has been seen in Russia,” a company spokesperson said.
To decrypt the data, the culprits demand a ransom of $600 in bitcoins, a cryptocurrency, the spokersperson said.
Currently, the company’s experts are analyzing samples of the malware to establish the possibility of decrypting the data, the company’s representative said
