Russia cannot quickly boost deliveries of natural gas to Europe before signing relevant contracts, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“In order to quickly boost gas deliveries – by the way, it’s also a factor – there’s a need to first sign contracts for this gas. After all, it’s a contract-based and not a spot procedure, and this gas has to be extracted first. It can’t be extracted in the absence of buyers and routes,” Lavrov said at a meeting with members of the Association of European Businesses in Russia.

The current situation should not be politicized, and it makes sense rather “to think that our realities might suffer from the actions of governments and individual companies on the energy supply and energy security tracks,” he said.
