BRUSSELS – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he is unaware of contacts between U.S. President Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer.

“I was astounded to learn that a Russian female lawyer and Donald Trump’s son have been accused of communicating. It looks utterly absurd to me. When some person communicates with a lawyer, what’s the problem with it?” Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

“I don’t know about this fact,” Lavrov said, adding that he had learned about such contacts from the media.

At the same time, commenting on accusations that Russia interfered with the U.S. presidential election, Lavrov maintained once again that “there is not a single fact somehow upholding these unfounded allegations.”

“We have no doubts – and President Putin has repeatedly spoken about this – that this has been devised to try to rework the outcome of the election, which Donald Trump has won,” he said.

“We haven’t seen a single fact. And if journalists are ready to work solely on the basis of unfounded allegations and are not prepared to acknowledge that facts are absent, I can’t do anything about it. It means this profession relies on such approaches in modern conditions,” he said.
