You're reading: Moldova registers 656 new COVID-19 cases

CHISINAU – Over 49,000 out of almost 68,000 infected people have recovered from coronavirus in Moldova, the press service for the country’s Health, Labor, and Social Protection Ministry told Interfax on Oct. 20 evening.

“On Tuesday, 3,090 tests were studied, including 2,664 initial tests. As many as 656 tests were positive. The overall number of the cases of COVID-19 identified in Moldova thus reached 67,958,” the statement said.

Another 590 patients who recovered from coronavirus were discharged from medical institutions, the statement said. In all, 49,083 people thus recovered from coronavirus, the Health Ministry said.

The deaths of another 16 patients who were earlier diagnosed with coronavirus were reported too. The total number of fatalities throughout the pandemic reached 1,617 in Moldova, the Health Ministry said.

The number of COVID-19 infections is steadily on the rise in Moldova. On Oct. 20, the number of daily infections was one-and-a-half times more than it was on Oct. 19. At the same time, it is almost twice as few as last week, when an anti-record of 1,149 daily cases was seen on Oct. 15.
