HAMBURG – Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leader of the United States, Donald Trump, have begun their first meeting with an exchange of greetings and the expression of hope for a constructive talk.

The conversation was started by the U.S. president who stated that he was very glad to meet Putin and noted that he was looking forward to talking to his Russian counterpart, an Interfax correspondent reported on July 7.

For his part, Putin, having greeted Trump, said he hoped to discuss the most acute issues of the bilateral relationship and of the international agenda, and expressed hope “for positive results.”

“I am very glad to meet you and I hope that, as you said, this meeting will bring positive results,” Putin told Trump.

The meeting is not one-on-one but involves the two countries’ foreign ministers. Before the meeting, the two leaders shook hands again.

The reporters were able to hear only a few phrases at the start of the meeting. After that, many of them tried to shout questions to the presidents, but these continued talking in a low voice.
