MOSCOW – Russia has registered 21,665 new cases of COVID-19 for the first time since Jan. 21, along with 619 deaths, the highest daily number since the beginning of the year, over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on June 26.
“Over the past day, 21,665 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,079 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (14.2%),” the headquarters said.
Daily coronavirus morbidity rates have been growing in Russia since June 8. Saturday’s figures are similar to the number of new cases, 21,887, registered on Jan. 21, when morbidity rates were declining, but now they are growing.
The death toll has also been rising: 619 deaths from COVID-19 were reported on June 26, which is the highest daily number since Dec. 24, 2020 and the beginning of this year.
The highest daily number of coronavirus-related deaths was registered in St. Petersburg, 107, which is the highest daily death toll among all Russian cities and regions since the onset of the pandemic. Moscow reported 96 coronavirus-related deaths over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 14,347 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Russia.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 5,430,753 cases of COVID-19, including 132,683 deaths and 4,943,986 recoveries.
