You're reading: Russian actor Valentin Gaft dies at age 86

MOSCOW – People’s Artist of the RSFSR Valentin Gaft died at the age of 86 after a long illness, the actor’s wife, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Olga Ostroumova, told Interfax.

“Valentin Iosifovich died, that’s right,” Ostroumova said.

She reported that the cause of death was a stroke, after which the actor was recovering for several years.

Valentin Gaft was born on Sept. 2, 1935. Soviet and Russian theater and film actor, theater director, poet and writer. Graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School in 1957. He worked at the Moscow Drama Theater, the Mossovet Theater, Lenkom Theatre, the Moscow Academic Theatre of Satire. He worked in the troupe of the Moscow Sovremennik Theatre since 1969.
