MOSCOW – Russian companies say that cybercrime has increased by 75 percent in the past three years, according to Russia’s digital economy program approved by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on July 31.
“Russia has traditionally paid a lot of attention to issues related to information security at gas supply, energy supply and nuclear facilities. However two thirds of Russian companies say the number of cybercrimes in the past three years has increased by 75 percent,” the program said.
The document concludes that Russia needs to “improve information security systems in all sectors of the economy.”
The program cites data showing that “the market for commercial data storage and processing centers grew to 14.5 billion rubles by the start of 2017, up 11 percent compared to 2016.”
“At the same time, in contrast to most countries, Russia does not have standards for assessing data storage and processing quality which is why there is no objective possibility to assess the quality of services that are provided, including the data storage potential,” the program said.
