MOSCOW – United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about further restrictive measures in a phone conversation on August 31, in turn, Lavrov voiced regret about this, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“The secretary of state has made a phone call especially to say that additional restrictions on the Russian diplomatic missions’ activity in the United States will be declared in the near future and laid down their essential content,” the statement said.

“In response the minister expressed regret with escalation of tensions in bilateral relations, which we did not begin, and said that Moscow will attentively study new measures declared by Americans, after that our reaction will be made public,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The phone conversation was held at the American initiative, the statement said.
