You're reading: Russia’s consumer rights watchdog says new coronavirus strain found in Moscow

MOSCOW, Oct. 25 – The new mutation of the Delta variant of coronavirus, AY.4.2, has been found in Moscow and the Moscow region, where three cases have been registered, Anna Popova, the head of Russia’s consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, said.

“My colleagues were saying just a few days ago that we are seeing another [coronavirus] mutation [AY.4.2], another one that our colleagues in the United Kingdom have announced […] We have seen it in Moscow and the Moscow region, we have three such cases, and we are following the developments very closely,” Popova said in an interview aired on the Pozner program on Channel One television.
