UN human rights experts have reported on 450 documented cases of torture and the inhuman treatment of people in Belarus during the detentions that followed the presidential election.

“The experts received reports of 450 documented cases of torture and ill-treatment of people deprived of their liberty after the disputed presidential election on 09 August that led to mass protests and arrests,” the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said in a statement on its website.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts and the state of health of at least six people are reportedly unknown to their relatives, the statement said.

Additionally, the experts have received reports of violence against women and children, including sexual abuse and rape using rubber batons.
