Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered starting preparations for a Victory Parade to be held in Moscow and a number of other Russian cities on June 24.

“I order that preparations begin for a military parade in honor of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War in the capital of Russia, Moscow, and other cities. We’ll do this on June 24, on the day when the legendary historic parade of victors was held in 1945, when soldiers who fought near Moscow, who defended Leningrad, who battled near Stalingrad, who freed Europe, and who stormed Berlin marched on Red Square,” Putin said during a videoconference with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday.

Putin ordered “the strictest possible safety measures in preparing and holding the parade” be ensured.

“The risks must be minimized for all of its participants or, better, ruled out,” he said.
