GRU stands for the Main Intelligence Directorate, Russia's main military intelligence agency. Along with the FSB security service and the SVR foreign intelligence agency, it's one of Moscow's main spy agencies. Still commonly known as GRU, the agency changed its name to the Main Directorate (GU) as a result of a reform in 2010. British Prime Minister Theresa May said September 5, 2018, that two intelligence officials from Russia's GRU intelligence agency carried out a nerve attack agent attack on a former spy on British soil in March.
