You're reading: Zhirinovsky calls Sobchak ‘dummy candidate’

Ksenia Sobchak, who has announced her intention to run for president, may turn out to be a spoiler candidate, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said.

“And how to collect two million signatures? Clearly, she will get help with that. Huge money is needed for the election campaign; someone will give the money. It means the candidate is false, it’s a dummy candidate, to draw votes from the other candidates,” Zhirinovsky said at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi.

He also criticized the idea of “diversifying the list of candidates” by including a woman in it. “Look, there is a woman candidate. I said if you want to diversify the program, let’s include transvestites, let’s include bums, too,” Zhirinovsky said.

Zhirinovsky also criticized Sobchak’s political experience, saying he believes the TV host and journalist does not have the necessary knowledge and experience.

“Can a hospital nurse become a health minister? […] Specialists should run things. A certain set of qualities is needed,” Zhirinovsky said.
