A series of cultural and educational events in Kyiv under the auspices of KyivPride will start on June 16 and will end with the March of Equality on June 23.

“KyivPride 2019 is approaching, which will begin on June 16 and will end on June 23, traditionally with the March of Equality,” NGO KyivPride PR head Sofia Lapina said at a press briefing in Kyiv on June 14.

Traditional values will be discussed during the events, she said.

“We are very sorry to hear that the term ‘traditional values’ began to have a negative connotation since the moment when the ultra-right and conservative groups became active,” Lapina said.

This year the main theme of the event will be “Freedom. Unity. Struggle,” and the main slogan is “Our tradition is freedom!”

It is noted that all interested will be able to visit PrideHaus (8 Naberezhno-Luhova Street), where film screenings, discussions and thematic exhibitions will take place. The international human rights conference “The Right to the City” and the premiere of the documentary “Do not hide your head –2” are also on the agenda.

In turn, Anna Sharyhina, co-founder of KyivPride, emphasized that in 2019, the Pride program would be dedicated to inclusion (disability rights), and not just human rights for the LGBTQI community.

Some 10,000 participants in the March of Equality, which is to last from 08:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Kyiv time on June 23, are expected in 2019.
