Kyiv’s Soviet Trade House has turned into a futuristic setting in a new Adidas commercial.

The video ad published on July 8 was shot in the Ukrainian capital with the involvement of a local Family Production.

Titled “Ozworld,” the commercial follows a man living in a hi-tech civilization who puts on a pair of new Adidas sneakers in the morning and sets on a journey through the urban jungle of an Asian city.

“Take a look at these futuristic shots. Now tell us honestly, do you believe that our new video for Adidas was almost completely shot in the Trade House on Lvivska Square?” Family Production asked when announcing the piece on Facebook.

The company says that the shootings were held at night. The 25-story Trade House, built in 1981, served as the location for scenes set in a subway station, the main character’s apartment and something that resembles a shoe store in the distant future. In this store, the man passes dozens of TV screens filling the many shelves inside before virtually trying on various Adidas sneakers.

“The most difficult challenge was to find so many old TVs and connect (to power) each one separately,” Family Production wrote.

The Ukrainian company assisted the French-headquartered Division production in the shoot. German director and fashion photographer Daniel Sannwald directed the video. He previously collaborated with global brands such as Nike, Hugo Boss and Stella McCartney and also made music videos and album covers for Rihanna, Travis Scot, Woodkid, John Legend and M.I.A.

Family Production also has a star-studded portfolio, having previously worked with Dior, Swarovski, Givenchy, Nike and others.

One of its pieces was a particularly successful project. “Francesca,” a 2020 film shot for Italian denim label Diesel, won five awards at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
