You're reading: Dutch jazz feast

Michiel Borstlap is a Dutch jazzman.

The piano has been his companion from the age of four. Now, with nearly four decades of experience, he writes music, improvises on stage and writes soundtracks for movies. When he is not playing, he contributes to Esquire magazine as a columnist.

Borstlap collaborated with many of the worlds’ famous musicians, from Herbie Hancock to members of the bands Genesis and Yes.

He also wrote one of the first operas in the Arabic language, “Aviccena.” Other well-known jazzmen, double-bass player Ark Ovrutski and drummer Erik Kooger will accompany Borstlap in Kyiv.

Sunday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m., National music academy, 11 Khreshchatyk St., 067-430-7306. Tickets: Hr 100-300.
