‘Tenet’

The summer’s main and only blockbuster will be screened in English at the Planeta Kino multiplex cinemas next week. Director Christopher Nolan’s take on spy thrillers “Tenet” has his signature diversions in time and an incredibly complex narrative. In short, the story centers on a former CIA agent played by John David Washington, who tries to save the world from terrorists with a time-inversion technology. Aided by another agent played by Robert Pattinson, the protagonist travels around the globe and even backward in time. The film is an exciting rollercoaster with stunning soundtrack and cinematography, but — like many other Nolan’s films — it doesn’t really touch an audience’s emotions. Still, it’s arguably the best blockbuster experience one can have since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tenet. Planeta Kino Blockbuster (34 Stepana Bandery Ave.) on Sept. 3-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Planeta Kino River Mall (12 Dniprovska Embankment) on Sept. 3-9 at 9:05 p.m. Hr 125-220

Sasha Maslov. Ukrainian Railroad Ladies

The latest project by the Ukrainian photographer Sasha Maslov, who shoots for The New York Times, The Guardian and other western media, will be on display at the Naked Room gallery. “Ukrainian Railroad Ladies” is dedicated to the women who work as traffic controllers and safety officers for the Ukrainian Railways, having to spend 12-hour shifts every two or three days in small dedicated buildings beside the tracks. Maslov’s method is a documentary portrait of a person in her natural interior, rich with facial expressions, details and context. The project has won several awards, including from World Photo Awards and LensCulture.
