She Wants Revenge

Post-punk band with an intriguing name She Wants Revenge will give their first show in Kyiv. Consisting of Justin Warfield (lead vocals, guitar) and Adam Bravin (bass, keyboard, guitar), the band performs in a dark wave music style which combines gothic rock with electronic beats. She Wants Revenge toured with such popular bands as Depeche Mode and Placebo. Their song “Tear You Apart” appeared in popular TV series “American Horror Story” and reached number six on the Alternative Songs chart by Billboard, the U.S. music-focused magazine.

‘The Kitchen’

When some of the best modern comedy actresses team up for a movie, the expectations are high. When they team up for a crime drama, it’s a challenge that draws the attention of movie-goers and critics. Starring well-known U.S. actresses Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss, “The Kitchen” depicts the adventure of three housewives living in the New York neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s. After their mobster husbands get imprisoned, the trio steps up to operate their spouses’ mafia matters. The directorial debut of U.S. filmmaker and screenwriter Andrea Berloff, the film will be screened in Kyiv cinemas in English. “The Kitchen.” Aug. 9-14. Check screenings in our calendar.

Rap Shmap Yo Kurazh Bazar

Kyiv’s charity market Kurazh Bazar is returning with one of their most popular events, street culture-themed two-day market. The event will as usual offer a variety of goods to buy and will raise money from the ticket sales for charity. The entertainment of Rap Shmap Yo, however, is a rare find in Kyiv. The event will feature some of the best modern Ukrainian hip-hop artists, such as rapper Alyona Alyona and up-and-coming trio Fo Sho. They will also set up a skate park and zones to play basketball and baseball, hold workshops on how to clean sneakers and throw a street dancing battle.

‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

One of William Shakespeare’s most well-known creations, the romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” will be screened in a Kyiv cinema in English with Ukrainian subtitles. The play depicts the adventures of a group of young lovers in Athens, all somehow connected to the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and Hippolyta. Directed by British Dominic Dromgoole, the four-act comedy stars English actors John Light, Michelle Terry, and Matthew Tennyson and gives viewers in Kyiv a chance to explore the atmosphere of Shakespeare’s Globe Theater.
