UPark

The music festival season in Kyiv continues with another event, UPark. The three-day festival features modern stars of various genres from South African hip-hop duo Die Antwoord to the U.S. rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Apart from that, the festival’s lineup includes English singer Rag’n’Bone Man, best known for his single “Human,” British metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon and Danish singer MØ, who made a breakthrough with her international hit “Lean On” created in collaboration with Major Lazer and DJ Snake. The festival offers full passes and one-day tickets, as well as the VIP versions of both – these include priority entrance and a separate zone with a bar, restaurant and pool.

‘Summer. Dzyga. Love’

 Get to know the future of the Ukrainian cinema previewed in the short films by young Ukrainian filmmakers that had been nominated for the Zolota Dzyga Ukrainian Film Academy Awards. The five films range in genres and techniques, including romance, comedy-drama, sci-fi and animated arthouse. Zolota Dzyga winner “Mia Donna” tells the story of a woman struggling with her husband’s dementia when he starts to act like a seven-year-old boy. A prize-winner at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, “Vypusk ’97” is about a technician in a provincial city trying to reconnect with his long-lost classmate. The innovative “Breathholding” was filmed entirely underwater to tell the story of a synchronized swimmer fighting to win the championship and the love of her coach. The films will be screened in Ukrainian with English subtitles at the Zhovten cinema.

LOW: Kalabrese

Night parties at the Closer club and its summer stage Lesnoy Prichal have become an essential part of summertime entertainment in Kyiv. The Ukrainian DJ Pavlo Plastikk has created LOW Party – laid back beach disco club nights. Each time organizers invite guest DJs from all over the world. On July 19, fans of electronic dance music can enjoy sets of Swiss Dj Kalabrese, who is the owner of the Zurich club Zukunft. Kalabrese’s music can be recognized through an electronic-acoustic mix of house with elements of funk and folk. The second guest of the night is a Swedish Dj Magnus Blomkvist, who is known for his collaboration with duet Aihki and the use of rare recordings in his mixes. Both DJs have original styles of performing and are bright characters in the club night life.
