All American Independence Day

The Independence Day in the United States, or the federal holiday commemorating the country’s Declaration of Independence from July 4, 1776, is always a big celebration. And Kyiv will have its own way to mark the date. The city’s America House, a center for the U.S. culture and education, will hold a party on the occasion of the holiday on July 7. The organizers promise to provide all the party essentials: grilled delights, drinks, music and dancing. The event is free, however, it requires an obligatory registration. Visitors have to bring their IDs to enter.

‘Men in Black: International’

A return to the amusing and exciting franchise about aliens living on Earth, ‘Men in Black: International’ replaces the original’s cannily paired leads Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones with current stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. The two have already established a playful dynamic in “Thor: Ragnarok,” and their acting as partners in protecting the world from alien invaders builds up from there. The film’s mascot Pawny voiced by Kumail Nanjiani delivers most of the comic relief and the dancing duo Les Twins ominously portray the villains while putting in some great moves. The casting is the film’s strongest suit, while the story and sets remind you of something else from other movies – “often better, cleverer, funnier,” one critic writes. Yet, the spinoff can be a great entry point for the youngest to the wondrous world of the Men – and Women – in Black that first appeared 22 years ago.

Lesnoy Prichal: Moodymann, Vova KLK, Roman K

Committed to infusing modern techno and house with the black disco, soul and jazz music, Kenny Dixon Jr., better known as Moodymann, will perform at the summer stage of Kyiv’s Closer club. Moodymann amassed a great vinyl collection of classic and unknown gems while working at several Detroit record stores in the mid-nineties. He combines these samples with live instruments and drum loops into mixes known for the warm analog sound and cool, laid-back grooves. Moodymann will be spinning plates along Closer’s resident DJs Vova KLK and Roman K.
