‘The Nest’

A new film called “The Nest” spotlights the troubles of a married couple that relocates from New York to an old manor near London. Directed by Canadian Sean Durkin, “The Nest” is a mix of thriller, mystery and drama that takes its viewers back to the 1980s. The film stars U.S. actress Carrie Coon and English actor Jude Law, whose performances have been praised by the critics worldwide. “’The Nest’ wrings additional tension out of its unsettling story with an outstanding pair of lead performances,” one review reads. The picture premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020. It will be screened at Kyiv’s Zhovten and Multiplex cinemas in English on Oct. 17-18.

Closer’s 7th Anniversary 

Kyiv’s hottest underground club Closer turns seven this weekend. And it welcomes all to celebrate its birthday on Oct. 17. Sixteen of the club’s residents will entertain the audience with their electronic music sets all night long. The event’s lineup features well-known local DJs such as Ponura, Shakolin, Pahatam, Borys, Igor Glushko, as well as Bambu, Vova Klk, Alex Savage and more. Don’t forget to put on a mask and wish Closer a happy birthday.

‘Out of Scope’

The new exhibition at Kyiv’s Izone gallery aims to break gender stereotypes about women. Called “Out of Scope,” the exhibition features artworks by Ukrainian and foreign artists including Alevtina Kakhidze, Julia Beliaeva, Maria Kulikovska and Oleksandr Roytburd, who explore the roles of women in the modern world. The exhibition is part of the project “Center of Gender Culture as a Platform for empowerment of women and youth,” funded by the European Union. It will be open at Izone until Oct. 30.

Hygge 

Hygge, which means “comfort” and “coziness” in Danish, is the perfect name for the upcoming market by Vsi Svoi, a company that promotes local production. During the two-day market on Oct. 24-25, it will offer an opportunity to shop for goods that can make a home cozier — just in time before the cold season starts. There, over 100 Ukrainian producers of candles, plaids, wooden furniture, ceramics, kitchen supplies and stationery will sell the best of their goods. Entrance to the event is free. All visitors are asked to wear masks and maintain social distance.
