Photon x Promin’: Ben Klock, Ellen Allien and others

Kyiv’s Promin’ audiovisual parties are back, this time in collaboration with Photon – a project by the German techno artist Ben Klock. Promin’ and Photon combine music, lights and architecture to create a multisensory rave experience. A symbol of Berlin’s modern techno movement, Klock will perform at the party, bringing along his DJ friends Ellen Allien with her futuristic techno and DVS1, a vinyl enthusiast inspired by the 90s rave scene. Ukrainian DJ Voin Oruwu will provide local support. Promin’s parties are site-specific, and this time the rave will be integrated into the surroundings of Dovzhenko Film Studio, a vast post-industrial space that was a former Soviet film production studio.

‘Joker’

“Joker” is an origins story of the iconic supervillain and Batman nemesis from DC Comics. However, it is far from a conventional superhero movie. The film is actually a psychological thriller digging deep into the dark corners of comedian-turned-villain Arthur Fleck’s soul. The picture won the main prize, the Golden Lion, at the 76th Venice International Film Festival and has been praised for Joaquin Phoenix’s depiction of Joker. Phoenix faced the challenge of filling the shoes of the late Heath Ledger, whose historic performance in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy won him a posthumous Oscar. Despite the acknowledgment of its artistic value, “Joker” has also been called “wild” and “the most controversial movie of the year.” It has been criticized for its graphic violence, especially in the wake of near-daily mass shootings in the United States. To prevent incidents, the film’s screenings in New York will have police officers in the cinemas.
