‘Beats’

British comedy-drama “Beats” brings the audience back to the 1990s to witness the birth of the rave culture despite its ban in Scotland. The film depicts two teenagers who take desperate steps to attend an illegal rave and experience what has the potential to be the most adventurous night in their lives. Directed by Brian Welsh and produced by Steven Soderbergh, “Beats” has been praised for its humor and honesty. The film will be screened in English with Ukrainian subtitles.

‘She’s Not Like Others’

For several years, photographer Diana Andrunyk has been capturing the beauty of women with physical disabilities who feel confident and attractive despite the common perception of their appearance as “non-standard.” For her new exhibition, the artist brought together a series of portraits to draw attention to the issue of standardizing female beauty. According to the exhibition’s description, globally 15% of women have different kinds of disabilities, and there are more than 3 million of women with disabilities in Ukraine.

Apollonia trio

During summer, Kyiv’s most renowned club Closer, along with the Kyiv Vechirniy promotional group, launched a series of outdoor parties held at the Kureni restaurant. Although the summer is largely believed to be the party season, the organizers say that September is actually even better for that – it’s warm but not too hot, while outfit choices expand beyond a swimsuit and a hat. At the upcoming event, the Apollonia trio (DJs Shonky, Dyed Soundorom and Dan Ghenacia ) from France will entertain the fans of electronic music.

‘Viktor Marushchenko. Archive’

“Everyone knows Viktor Marushchenko,” says the photo exhibition description by The Naked Room gallery. Indeed, Marushchenko is one of Ukraine’s most internationally acknowledged photographers and his influence on generations of local artists is hard to overstate. The exhibition will take visitors 30 years back when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union but the spirit of independence was already in the air. The gallery writes that Marushchenko’s photographs will show a Ukraine that we don’t remember and, for the most part, don’t understand. The exhibition is currently open to visitors. It also just became public that Marushchenko is battling a serious illness and needs financial support to afford treatment.
