It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow! If you’re lucky enough to be in Kyiv this crazy year then here are some ideas for how you could spend a romantic evening and keep the dark forces of war at bay.
Recreate your first date – A romantic date where it all began can be a wonderful way to enjoy your time together with fun and nostalgia. Refresh your memories of gazing into each other’s eyes for the first time, sharing that first kiss, enjoying that first meal or confessing your feelings. If you’re still together then you obviously did something right so why not revisit that spot once again!
Love quest – A love quest can be a great surprise for your partner in crime. Plan the route and devise puzzles or tasks to complete the quest. You could base it around places or landmarks that are special to both of you and – if you’re super prepared – hide some sweet treats for them to discover along the way. A possible downside in the chilly Ukrainian winter can be the weather, but don’t let it stifle the mood. In this case, you could organize a quest at home, hiding riddles and gifts in different rooms.
Bridge of Lovers – Mariyinsky Park is always a top destination for couples walking arm in arm. On this bridge, “love” padlocks hang as a testimony to Kyiv’s sweethearts. (although they are removed every few years as otherwise, the bridge would collapse – so do keep a spare love padlock)
Forest Picnic – Why not go somewhere quiet with a bag of mushrooms and a bottle of wine and make a fire in the snowy woods. There’s plenty of woodland around Kyiv and you could even join up with a territorial army drill and spread love that little bit further.
