You're reading: How to mail a parcel abroad

Tip of the Week explains how to mail a parcel to any country in the world.

In Kyiv a package can be sent from any post office. The city’s main post office is located at 22 Khreshatyk (279-9192). Before taking your package to the post office, you should be aware of the tax regulations of the country to which you are sending it. In case the package needs to be transited through one or several countries, you should be aware of the rules and regulations of each country, as it may happen that one of the items you’re sending is prohibited. The cost of mailing it depends on the means of transportation (by land, air or water), the parcel’s weight and size, the cost of the item inside and its fragility. For example, if you want to send a parcel to a western European country you will have to pay $10.41 plus $2.67 per kilogram if sent by air, or $1.77 per kilogram if sent over land. You will also have to pay 0.5 percent of the sum of the evaluated parcel (if you say it’s worth Hr 100, you’ll pay Hr 0.5). If you mark the parcel as “fragile,” you will pay an additional fee. You can also send your parcel by using the services of DHL global shipment company (2 Chervonoarmiyska, 490-2600, dhl.com.ua). The cost of the shipment will depend on the weight, distance, customs costs and the desired terms of delivery. FedEx is another widely known courier company present in Kyiv (44 Kikvidze, 495-2020, fedex.com/ua). To find out how much a shipment will cost, just go to the company’s website and type in your invoice list.
