You're reading: India marks Independence Day

Indian culture is not just about Bollywood films and Kama Sutra.

The second most populous country after China, its commercial and cultural wealth is hard to underestimate.

But in Ukraine, we seem to know little of the Indian sprouts on home turf.

To fix that, Indians invite everyone to a free open-air gig at Independence Square on Sunday.

They’ll celebrate the 64th anniversary of independence from the U.K. with temple and Bollywood dances, national instruments, henna tattoos, competitions and lottery.

Some Ukrainian bands will experiment playing with Indian performers.

One of the pioneers of Indi Pop, DJ Apache Indian will give a concert. He’s a four-time nominee for Brit Awards and is one of the Asian international mainstream artists.

We’ve been told Ukrainian celebrities won’t miss the party, so there’s no reason you should.

Independence Square, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. till 10 p.m.
