You're reading: Japanese jazz

According to the Japanese tradition, whatever you start in June you will succeed at.

It held true for Keiko Matsui, who was sent to music school in June at the age of five. Now she is a world-famous jazz musician.

Matsui, Doi by her maiden name, studied at the Yamaha Music Foundation where she was offered her first contract as a recording artist. At the age of 19, Doi traveled to the U.S to record a debut album. There she met her future husband, Kuzu. Although they divorced in 2008, she kept his last name.

Matsui has 20 albums of her own jazz music spiced by oriental flavor from her native Japan.
