Kyiv restaurant Italianskaya Redaktsia (Italian Edition) has been a sensation ever since its opening – and it is expected to attract even more attention after winning a prestigious international award.

The restaurant received the Silver Palm prize, which celebrates the most innovative foodservice concepts in Europe, at a ceremony on Oct. 23 in Rust, Germany.

This is the first time a Ukrainian restaurant has won the award.

“We have won such a dreamy, such precious silver!” the restaurant’s Facebook post published on Oct. 23 reads. “It is an extraordinary honor and an opportunity to be proud and to be happy.”

The Palm Prizes are given out yearly by Leaders Club International, a foodservice network for innovative restaurateurs, their industrial partners, suppliers and service providers. The network has national branches that pick local winners. After that, they compete for the international awards.

Italianskaya Redaktsia opened at the end of last year in central Kyiv. The restaurant uses one of the most popular cuisines in the world, Italian, as an inspiration for experiments, so nothing is strictly traditional. Instead, all of the dishes have a modern twist.

“The Italian cuisine of our time is modern, different, after careful but respectful editing,” the restaurant’s website reads.

The eatery’s interior design is a mix of Renaissance and modern styles, combining various moldings with neon lights.

Italianskaya Redaktsia won second place in the competition while the Gold Palm went to Glorious Bastards, a restaurant chain with three locations in Austria, Boulom in Paris received the bronze.

The eatery is the creation of star restaurateur Dmytro Zaporozhets and his company First Line Group, which runs a number of successful restaurants in Kyiv and Kharkiv.

The company’s eateries in the capital are among the most popular in the city, including Lyubimy Dyadya (Favorite Uncle) and Zhizn Zamechatelnykh Lyudey (Life of Wonderful People).
