Kyiv’s annual Book Arsenal Festival may be awarded as the best literary festival in the world this year. The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards selected Book Arsenal as one of the three nominees in the Literary Festival of the Year category.

The awards shortlist was published on the London Book Fair’s website on Feb. 14.

The Ukrainian festival will compete with International Literary Festival Utrecht held in the Netherlands and Makassar International Writers Festival held in Indonesia.

The award ceremony will take place on March 12, 2019, at the Olympia Exhibition Center in London.

The next Book Arsenal will take place in Kyiv on May 22-26 in Mystetskyi Arsenal art exhibition center. The main theme of this year’s fair has a working title of “Neighborhood,” which draws attention to the problems of people co-existing in the society.

Apart from the Literary Festival of the Year, the London Book Fair will award companies involved in the book business in 17 categories celebrating the best publishers, bookstores libraries and educational initiatives.

This year’s shortlist features nominees from 26 countries including The United States, Canada, Indonesia, Brazil, France and India.

The International Excellence Awards is an honor founded by the London Book Fair and the UK Publishers Association aimed at celebrating the achievements and innovations in publishing outside of the UK.

The Book Arsenal, the largest annual literary and art fair in Ukraine was founded in 2011 in order to bring together publishers from all over the country and the fans of literature.

Apart from the fair, the festival holds readings, discussions and performances.
