Lviv kicked off its 18th annual book fair on Sept. 14.
The four day event, which ends Sept. 18, highlights new and upcoming authors, as well as names well-known in Ukraine and abroad.
This year’s guest of honor will be Norwegian author and playwright Erlend Loe, who is known for being consciously naïve in his works.
Other notable guests will include Poland’s Adam Michnik and Marek Krajewski, Kazakhstan’s Olzhas Suleimenov as well as Ukraine’s Vasyl Shkliar and Maria Matios. For the first time this year organizers will introduce a special guest country, which is Switzerland.
A special exhibition and literary program will be dedicated to this European nation. The fair’s principle topic will be the “Dialogue of Civilization,” which is part of the “Milosz’s Lessons for Ukraine” program supported by Poland’s ministry dedicated to culture and national heritage. As in past years, visitors will be able to review and purchase books on a variety of topics by publishers small and large.
As part of the fair, other events will also be held, including the annual competition for the fair’s best book, a related literary festival, as well as business and library forums.
While entrance to many events will be free, tickets will be necessary for several events, including meetings with select authors, as well as entrance to the fair itself. The fee is Hr 5 for a one-time entrance, Hr 25 for unlimited visits during the time of the fair.
Other prices, including times when entrance will be free, can be found on the fair’s website at http://bookforum.ua. The fair will be held at the Lviv’s Arts Palace. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to the Potocki Palace. Both are located on Kopernika Street just off Prospect Svobody.
