Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine Volodymyr Borodiansky believes that the system of allocating state funds for filmmaking should be simplified, but responsibility for obtaining these funds should be increased.

“It is necessary to work on making it easier to get funds, but there should be more responsibility for the funds received,” Borodiansky said at a press conference on the results of analysis of the effectiveness of state support for cinema in Kyiv.

According to him, the state is interested in Ukrainian films and TV shows appearing in the information space and have a wide audience.

“We are also interested in the development of the market. And we must create conditions in which Ukrainian producers can earn money on commercial movies,” Borodiansky added.

The minister noted that the amount of funds spent by the state on the creation of mass commercial cinema, which does not pursue other goals, should decrease.

At the same time, he emphasized the interest of the state in festival films, as this is one of the elements of cultural diplomacy.
