Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko to star in the next James Bond movie
Italways seemed a near impossible task for a Ukrainian actress or actor to break through to Hollywood. However, it looks like the magic solution was found – all one needs to do is become a famous model, like Olga Kurylenko, who was recently named the new James Bond girl.
Of course, there is nothing easy about becoming a supermodel on an international scale, but the truth is that the way this business works, all a girl needs is to be noticed by the right people – if your face is what they need, you might be walking the catwalks in Paris tomorrow, and then Hollywood is not that far off anymore…
Olga Kurylenko was born in Berdiansk in 1979, and at 17 years old signed a contract with Paris modeling agency Madison. Since then, she not only appeared on the covers of many popular magazines such as Elle, Glamour and Madame Figaro, but also started a movie career. She appeared in several French and American movies, the most famous being “Paris, Je T’Aime” and “Hitman.”
But of course, becoming the new Bond girl – which means a quick jump to stardom for any beginner actress – wasn’t all that easy. In an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda v Ukraine, Kurylenko’s mother Marina Alyabusheva said casting involved over a thousand candidates. In the end, the final choice was to be made between two actresses. However, Kurylenko was a favorite of Daniel Craig (the current embodiment of Bond) and director Mark Foster, and the two did their best to ensure she won. By the way, Kurylenko wasn’t typecast as a Russian or Ukrainian as could be expected – her character is supposed to have a light Spanish accent and will be named Camilla.
The city officials of Kurylenko’s native town, Berdiansk, reacted to the good news in a peculiar way – to demonstrate their admiration and pride for the former co-citizen, they promised to name a street, alley or park after the model-actress.
The new James Bond movie has no official name yet, but is due to be released Nov. 7 this year.
