Kyiv hosted the final round of Miss Ukraine Universe 2010 beauty pegeant Dec. 5, which was somewhat marred by the performance of FEMEN, a provocative group of campaigners for women's rights (2,3). Several FEMEN activists performed a mock arrival to the competition of "beauties" wearing ribbons such as Miss Bed. The guards, prevented them from entering the Intercontinental Hotel, which hosted the event.
The title of Miss Ukraine Universe 2010 was awarded to 22-year-old Anna Poslavska (90-62-90) from Nova Kakhovka in Kherson region (1). She was picked out of 15 contestants. “I was born in a village; my grandfather was a head of a collective farm. My mother is a medical worker, and my father is an engineer,” said Poslavska, who herself is pursuing a second university degree. She did not answer any personal questions.
The jury was composed of international stars, including actress Joan Collins (4), Russian boxer Nkolai Valuev (6), also known as the Russian Bear. Competition franchise owner in Ukraine Oleksandra Nikolayenko, herself a former Miss Ukraine Universe (6), arrived in Kyiv with her husband Phil Raffin (6, background) to head the jury. The couple are expecting their first child.
Former winners of Miss Ukraine Universe, including 2009 winner Kristina Kots-Gotlib (7) and 2008 winner Eleonora Massalab (8), were in attendance. Actors Jean-Claude Van Damme and Olga Sumska(5) were also spotted in the audience.
The winner will represent Ukraine at the Miss Universe pageant next year.
