The Pinchuk Art Center is presenting an exhibition featuring the 20 artists who received a Pinchuk Art Center Prize in 2018, an award given to Ukrainian artists under 35. The show focuses on the presentation of new works dedicated to the war in Ukraine, as well as the country’s future, and past.
Visitor Vasily Dedinets was at the Pinchuk Art Center for the first time. He said some of the artworks surprised him a lot.
“A woman shaving her leg on a big screen was not something I expected to see at the exhibition,” he said. “But in general I do like what I saw.”
The nominees for the Pinchuk Art Centre Prize 2018 were shortlisted by an Independent Selection Committee from more than 650 applicants, and include Ukrainian artists from all over the country.
The artistic director of the center, Bjorn Geldhof, says this year’s nominees are at the start of their careers. He said he was sure that soon he would hear more about their achievements.
“This is a radically new generation of artists, and they represent new forms of art, new ways of thinking,” Geldhof said.
The exhibition will take place until May 13 at Pinchuk Art Center exhibition center, 1/3 – 2 Velyka Vasylkivska St. Entrance is free.
