You're reading: Pop Notes: Ruslana gets new image

Pop-singer Ruslana presents her new video for her song “Wild Energy,” which shows her in the surprisingly new image of a futuristic heroine

Although singer Ruslana Lyzhychko, who was elected to the Verkhovna Rada as a deputy for the Our Ukraine party, promised to attend seriously  to her new duties, she didn’t leave her singing career behind. While there is not much going at the Ukrainian parliament anyway, Ruslana proudly presented her video for her new song “Wild Energy” on June 15, appearing before journalists and fans with an absolutely new image.

This new project of Ruslana’s is closely connected with the writing couple Maryna and Serhiy Dyachenko and their futuristic novel “Wild Energy. Lana.” Ruslana’s new video presents a mini screen version of the novel with Ruslana in the leading role of Lana. She appears in the video with two very different images – the already famous “wild” one as well as a futuristic look which features her with white hair, blue eyes and whitened skin, dressed in an outfit resembling that of the red-haired character in “The Fifth Element” played by Milla Jovovich. The video doesn’t feature any of Ruslana’s trademark dance moves, but instead lots of action – fights, chases and flights set on the rooves of derelict skyscrapers in a fictional city of the future.

Though Ruslana claimed that her previous project “Wild Dances” is officially over, her new one doesn’t seem all that much different. After all, yet again it deals with “wild” Ruslana, while the song “Wild Energy” itself sounds more like a remix for the hit “Wild Dances” than an absolutely new song. However, Ruslana claimed that she and her team are still experimenting with her music and image, working to make Ruslana’s appeal even “wider,” if that’s possible at all.The “Wild Energy” album as well as a few more videos are to be released in autumn. This will be followed by a colorful show, and maybe by then we’ll be able to find out if the Eurovision winner really can manage to do something new, or if we’ll get another serving of “wild dances” – only this time matched with a blonde and pale Ruslana.
