Former 5’nizza member, Andriy Zapotozhets, a.k.a. Sun, is again playing in Kyiv with his band SunSay.
Their last gig at 44 club in summer was such a success that surely the upcoming show is hugely anticipated. The 5’nizza acoustic duo from Kharkiv were amazing on the Ukrainian music scene. While no Ukrainian record company took an interest in their singer-songwriter music, their popularity spread by word of mouth. Finally, the band signed up to a label in Russia, and released two records. But, while working on the third one, differences forced Zaporozhets and his partner Serhiy Babkin embark on solo careers. Thus SunSay was founded in 2007 and its namesake debut album released the same year. It mainly consisted of the reworked material that was intended for 5’nizza’s third release. Zaporozhets assembled a strong team of professional musicians that sound powerful and energetic live, playing a string of songs that easily mix various styles – rock, reggae, funk and hip hop among others. And, of course, there is Sun himself, with his vocals that are perfect for Bob Marley-imitation reggae as they are for punk rock. And they come with catchy, smart lyrics that were a trademark of 5’nizza.
