Don’t miss the last beach party this summer; Theater on the Left Bank opens with a premiere

The time for openair parties is moving toward its end, but you still have time to catch one of the last beach parties. Jeans Beach Club is putting on a bidding farewell to summer partying with an impressive line-up of deejays: Kirill Doomski, Denis Dynamite, Harris, Dionis, Dizzy, Max Mikhailoff, Willy Bob, and Timo & Roman K.

In addition to the above acts is headliner Jean F. Cochois, aka The Timewriter. The Timewriter is the star of German label Plastic City and the founder of the popular “Deep Train” compilation series. Deejaying for more than 12 years now, The Timewriter is respected as one of the top producers within the international house scene. His trademark style can be characterized by his dense and atmospheric sound, which, being based on sophisticated musicality and thoughtful profundity, goes far beyond dance floors and mere entertainment. UK magazine “Muzik” gave this review: “This is real 21st century soul music, overflowing with magic.” Under various pseudonyms, the best known of which is The Timewriter, he has been releasing singles and albums on such renowned labels as Plastic City, Mole Listening Pearls, Elektrolux and American labels such as Wave Music, Driftwood, and Fiji. In his work Cochois received inspiration from the bands like Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Thomas Dolby, Ultravox, Alan Parson’s, Vangelis and Jean Michelle Jarre. As other important sources of inspiration, he includes Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry) and Marillion (Fish), who fascinate him with their tendency towards melancholy and calming seriousness. As a remixer, Jean F Cochois has earned great respect. Amongst his many remixes he has worked for artists such as the ex-Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flur (Yamo), Mike Oldfield, Yello, Faithless and Boy George, and many others.

A DJ in great demand, The Timewriter travels the world and plays in places such as New York, London, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Hungary and Russia. He played as a resident in Sven Vaths Cocoon Club and now holds a monthly residency in Budapest.

In his sets, Jean F. Cochois refrains from merely putting together song after song, but always has an overall concept in mind. Kyiv clubbers will certainly have lots of fun to his tunes – the last party on the beach in 2007 should be something incredible.

The 29th theatrical season at Drama and Comedy Theater on the Left Bank opens with the premiere, “Last Hero,” written by Odessa playwright Oleksander Mardanya and directed by Dmytro Bogomazov. The regulars of the theater are very familiar with the creative tandem of the aforementioned director and playwright. Last year, Dmytro Bogomazov staged “Queue” by the same author, which received two “Kyiv Pectoral” theater awards for Best Direction and Best Female Performance for Lesya Samoyiva.

“Last Hero” features the same actors who starred in “Queue,” Lesya Samoyiva, Oleksandr Kobzar, Dmytro Surzhykov, Lev Somov, Iryna Mak and Dmytro Lukyanov. Only this time the plot is much tougher. Some businessmen are eager to buy a certain patch of land for construction, and the people residing in the house that stands on the desired site are to be evicted. Dexterously, the businessmen throw the residents out, providing them with the “keys” to nonexistent apartments. But there is one man of principle, the “last hero” who refuses to leave his beloved home for any amount of money. The story is indeed based on real life, which means the audience will easily sympathize with it.

Bogomazov has already demonstrated a high level of skill playing in tragicomic household melodramas with intricate and bright scenic metaphors, so “Last Hero” can be expected to become another theater hit.
