“There is great news for Ukraine from the 44th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Today’s discussion focused on the state of preservation of sites with a UNESCO protected status around the world. The mission came to the conclusion that the general state of conservation of the object of Saint Sophia Cathedral with the adjacent monastic buildings and the monastery complex of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra with the Church of the Saviour at Berestovo is satisfactory. Nothing threatens the objects of Sophia of Kyiv, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra,” Tkachenko wrote on the Telegram channel.

According to him, the World Heritage Committee also notes positive trends since 2017 and states that the implementation of all relevant activities has a positive effect on the preservation of the value of the property.

“No new factors negatively affecting the state of conservation of the property have been found. Moreover, there are significant improvements compared to previous years,” he added.
