Kyiv’s biggest charity flea market, Kurazh, is ready to say goodbye to the hot and sunny season. Kurazh is holding its last summer event on Aug. 14-15. Apart from the usual bric-à-brac stands, visitors to the market will get a chance to dance to electronic music sets by local musicians such as Cape Cod, The Lazy Jesus, Philipp Markovich and more. There will also be movie screenings, various workshops and attractions for children.

Khrystyna Soloviy
Singer Khrystyna Soloviy is sometimes called Ukrainian Lana Del Rey for her powerful and touching vocals. Soloviy has been surrounded by Ukrainian folk music since early childhood. She now performs only in Ukrainian, writes her own lyrics and proves that Ukrainian music can be both modern and authentic. This weekend, Soloviy will perform some of her well-known hits at the summer terrace of the Vsi Svoi D12 event venue.

Franz Scala, Charlie
This weekend, Kyiv’s HVLV bar throws the last of its Italian Strada parties. The bar launched the party series in May together with the music label Slow Motion and Worn Pop promotion group, to introduce its guests to the Italian dance wave. Slow Motion’s head, Franz Scala is the guest DJ of the upcoming event. The DJ combines Italian dance, psychedelic disco with proto-house, and “quickly turns the dance floor into a vignette-tainted retro nostalgia rave fueled only by his music,” the organizers say. The party’s lineup also includes Polish Dj Charlie.

‘The Suicide Squad’
Yet another long-awaited superhero film has hit movie theaters in Kyiv recently. Based on the DC comics, “The Suicide Squad” is a standalone sequel to the 2016 “Suicide Squad” written and directed by U.S. James Gunn. The film follows Task Force X, a team of supervillains such as Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and others, as they are sent on a dangerous mission to the war-torn island Corto Maltese. The film “marks a funny, fast-paced rebound that plays to the source material’s violent, anarchic strengths,” Rotten Tomatoes critics wrote. The film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, as well as Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone and Viola Davis. The screenings will be in English.
