One of the electronic music pioneers in Ukraine, underground club Closer, has struggled to survive amid the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Known for bringing some of the world’s top DJs to Kyiv and organizing the Strichka and Brave Factory music festivals, this year the club experimented with weekday events and daytime parties. But it also laid off staff and cut expenses. The crisis still hit hard, so now the venue has started a crowdfunding campaign calling on visitors to donate to help them stay afloat. In another attempt to reform the nightclub culture during the pandemic, Closer is holding a daytime party this Saturday. The event will feature local DJs Eazy, Borys, Bambu. “Dancing in the afternoon and finishing in the evening turned out to be not that bad. Especially now that it gets dark so early,” Closer wrote on Facebook.
